Video Riot

Essentially a number of video artists and VJ’s showed up in this parkinglot with all their projectors aimed at this 3 story tall block long warehouse and projected a patchwork video wall. It had the feel of a big tailgate party or a night at the drive in. There was a pirate radio station setup with live DJ’s and most of the cars tuned in to provide a makeshift sound system.

It was truely amazing for me, I met so many people and my work went over better than I expected. I talked to promoters, curators, other artists interested in collaborating, and even a guy that was interested in carrying my DVD in his cd shop when I get it put together. A lot of people approached me asking questions about my setup, how it worked, what software I was using, and where I got my footage from. There was so much energy and interest in the crowd that I really realized why I moved out here.

We make it into California, Its a lot of down hill, 8000 ft. in Tahoe to 50 ft. in Sacramento. It was a long drive. We stop in Santa Rosa, have lunch, and I drop Mike off, and finish the trip down through Oakland and to Fremont.

NY > CA : Day 4

Day 4: Woke up (with the roosters) to find we were in a completely different world than what we saw before sunset. The landscapes turned completely alien, large flats, with huge rock formations on the horizon.

It took most of the day to trek across Utah and into Nevada. We were on rte 50 “The Loneliest Road in America” which seriously you could go miles without seeing another car, and towns were 50 to 100 miles apart.(better photos on film)

We hit snow peaks in the rockies, but luckily it was still 40’s and the road was clear. I was astonished to see ski lifts at road level. We drove through the rest of the mountains, and into Utah, and setup camp in the dark.

We hit this crazy rainstorm in Iowa. You can see the cold front moving in. As the temperature dropped we decided on driving later and getting a hotel room in Lincoln Nebraska.
